Contract awarded: EQOS Energie expands 380-kV system of the Lüstringen substation

25. November 2021
  • EQOS Energie receives commission to execute a comprehensive expansion project for the energy transformation at the Lüstringen substation from transmission network operator Amprion.

A far-reaching expansion is coming up at the Lüstringen substation, located east of Osnabrück: Apart from adjustments to the existing 110-kV part of the system, five control panels will be newly constructed across three busbars including a bypass busbar. Dortmund-based Amprion GmbH awarded this commission to infrastructure service provider EQOS Energie. his measure is necessary, because the Lüstringen substation is an important component of the energy transformation and therefore requires long-term additional stabilisation of the existing transportation network.

First great success for new corporate site in Oberhausen

“For our new location in Oberhausen, this commission is a genuine milestone,” Uwe Brand, head of the Substations Profit Center/HS Germany West in the Energy Technology business field, said. The facility in Oberhausen was opened just 11 months ago. This move was designed to create regional proximity to the energy supply companies in the area while simultaneously further strengthening the Energy Technology division in the Rhine-Ruhr area. “The trust Amprion placed in us shows that our strategic expansion is beginning to pay off. We were able to attain a strong positioning in just a short period of time. It speaks for our team’s expertise that we were awarded such a comprehensive commission right after finishing the prequalification phase,” Brand added.

EQOS Energie takes on a wide range of tasks

The expansion of the Lüstringen substation will begin as early as November 2021. The five control panels to be newly constructed are composed of three line bays and two transformer cubicles. In the coming months, EQOS Energie will work in sections along the customer’s activation program. In doing so, the company will assume various tasks in order to expand the existing system: The new assembly of devices and operating equipment – including the fitting of steel and auxiliary steel construction and the adjustment of various existing steel substructures – as well as the new assembly of cable and aluminium pipe connections are just a small part of the work to be performed. At the same time, an installation and expansion of the loop system for grounding of the system in order to assemble the grounding connections and earthing and phase fixed points will be performed. The new installation of protective, control, signalling unit and fibre optics cable including connection and splicing will also be supplied by the infrastructure service provider. The construction measures will be completed in February 2024.
