Interview with Maxime (32), Deputy Head of Engineering at the Technologie d’énergie profit centre at RU Luxembourg
Maxime joined EQOS in Foetz, Luxembourg, in 2017 as a technical draughtsman in the energy technology division. Since then, he has not only developed professionally, but is also taking on more and more management tasks. He is looking forward to the opportunity to develop further at EQOS to and to tackle new tasks.
What is your function at EQOS and what are your tasks?
I am Deputy Head of Engineering in the Technologie d’énergie profit centre . My tasks include coordinating the various projects for our customers as well as creating and checking technical drawings and plans. I also provide training for my colleagues and advise them on technical issues. I also support our PC manager in day-to-day business.
What is your favourite thing about your work?
I like the many different projects that I work on and that I can help to organise independently. My day-to-day work is very varied and it never gets boring, so you always learn something new. It’s great to be recognised and valued as an expert in the team and by our customers. I also particularly enjoy socialising with my colleagues. We have a great team at our location! We laugh a lot together and get on really well. That makes the work even better, of course.
What does your career look like?
I studied electrical engineering. After graduating, however, I initially worked in telecommunications technology for a year and a half. Although this is also an exciting industry, I was personally drawn back to energy technology. So I switched to EQOS in 2017. I’m very pleased to have been able to develop both professionally and personally at EQOS ever since and to gradually take on more responsibility. My boss will be retiring in the foreseeable future. He is already preparing me in the best possible way to take over the management of the team. I am very grateful for this trust and support and am really looking forward to this new challenge!
What skills do you need to be successful in your field?
You have to be able to switch quickly between different projects, familiarise yourself with a wide variety of challenges and never lose sight of the big picture. Technical understanding is just as important as good communication skills. When things get turbulent, it helps to approach things pragmatically, step by step – organisation is half the battle. I use a to-do list for this. It helps me to keep a cool head even in stressful phases.
“We’re all in the same boat – teamwork makes all the difference.”
What is special for you about EQOS as an employer?
I have always found the executives and management here in Luxembourg to be very supportive. Ideas and suggestions for improvement are listened to and taken seriously. EQOS offers everyone the opportunity to grow and develop within the company. My line manager supports me in this and actively encourages me . This doesn’t just mean that he has given me more and more responsibility over time . I was able to learn a lot from him and he accompanies me on my career.
Something like this is also reflected in the overall working atmosphere at Foetz: My colleagues are all very collegial and helpful – also t eam in dialogue with other departments. In the end, we all have a common goal that we want to achieve and similar challenges. We are all in the same boat – teamwork makes all the difference.
What are your wishes for the future?
I have big shoes to fill. I therefore hope that I will live up to the trust placed in me by and lead the department just as successfully. Until then, I would like to continue to grow in my role as a manager.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also play volleyball in a club. I also enjoy working on various do-it-yourself projects. Regardless of whether something needs to be repaired or remodelled: I love working with my own hands and finding practical solutions to challenges.
