EQOS Energie supports TenneT project for the energy transformation

  • New 380-kV extra-high-voltage line for Schleswig-Holstein
  • Important gap closure between Central Axis and East Coast Line
  • Contract awarded for the largest project to date in the Engineering profit center of the Overhead Line Construction business unit

In its largest realised project to date, the Engineering profit center of the Overhead Line Construction business unit at EQOS Energie supports transmission network operator TenneT in planning a new 380-kV extra-high-voltage line in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, which will run from Audorf via the state capital of Kiel to Göhl in the Ostholstein region. Against the backdrop of the energy transformation, the 100-kilometre line will make a significant contribution to reducing or avoiding overloads in the transmission grid. This saves expensive grid interventions and enables the full potential of renewable energy sources to be realised. Completion is planned for 2035.

More security for energy transport and supply

“The new extra-high-voltage line will close the gap between two central extra-high-voltage lines in Schleswig-Holstein, the Central Axis and the East Coast Line. This grid reinforcement significantly increases the security of energy transport and therefore also the security of supply. In addition, this will establish Kiel’s indispensable connection to the 380-kV extra-high-voltage grid,” said Thomas Reichel, Managing Director and Head of the Overhead Line Construction business unit at EQOS Energie. “Our excellent knowledge of the Schleswig-Holstein planning area, which EQOS Energie was already able to contribute to past TenneT projects, was probably a decisive factor in awarding the contract,” Reichel continued.

Full range of services from a single source

The planning in collaboration with TenneT is complex and extensive. In order to determine possible route variants, aspects such as environmental protection must be included in the project development alongside all technical concerns. An additional challenge: Due to the legally defined priority need for this project, the planning process will be accelerated.

Ralf Emmenlauer, Head of the Engineering profit center in the Overhead Line Construction business unit at EQOS Energie: “At peak times, our team will consist of more than 15 colleagues. They contribute their expertise in planning and routing as well as a wide range of knowledge. In collaboration with our client TenneT, we realise operational synergies on the one hand and develop new approaches that make the work more interesting and complex on the other.”
