Powerful grid infrastructure: EQOS Energie modernises Ottenhofen substation

12. augustus 2025
  • Dependable supply in the greater Upper and Lower Bavaria region thanks to modern grid infrastructure
  • System to be upgraded to state-of-the-art technology during ongoing operations
  • EQOS Energie contributes energy technology expertise for extensive electric fitting work

“We are in the midst of an energy technology paradigm shift,” Uwe Trampnau, Managing Director and Head of the Energy Technology business unit at EQOS Energie, said. “As a service provider in the field of critical infrastructure, we have always relied on innovative solutions and maximum precision. These qualities are particularly in demand given the ever-growing demands on the grid infrastructure. We are also contributing our many years of experience to the Ottenhofen project in order to work with our customer to lay the foundations for a modern and dependable power supply,” Trampnau added.

He referred to the new construction and expansion of the substation near Munich, which dates back to the 1970s and no longer meets modern performance requirements. EQOS Energie’s Substations/HV Germany South profit center has been entrusted with the extensive electrical fitting work for the project by transmission network operator TenneT Germany. This includes the delivery and installation of steel structures and portals, the installation of high-voltage equipment as well as cable stringing and connection work for the secondary technology. Work will start in summer 2025.

Meticulous planning, adherence to deadlines

“The Ottenhofen substation is being modernised step by step during ongoing operations, since power supply for the region must be ensured at all times. This requires detailed planning of the work and strict adherence to deadlines,” Markus Klein, Head of the profit center at EQOS Energie, said.
“However, our highly experienced team is well equipped to meet such challenges. EQOS Energie also has the necessary resources to cover the high demand for personnel during peak periods. Quality is at the heart of our daily work,” Klein added.

Dependable supply

Once the Ottenhofen substation has been turned into a state-of-the-art facility, it will be able to handle increasing power flows and fluctuations due to ever-growing volumes of green electricity and ensure a dependable supply.

This will be achieved in conjunction with the extra-high-voltage line from Oberbachern to Ottenhofen, which is connected to the substation. It is currently also being newly built and serves as an east-west link in southern Germany. The line is particularly important for the Greater Munich area.
