- Ruthmann Steiger TBR 230 Pro becomes part of the EQOS Energie vehicle fleet
- Investment for more flexibility on construction sites in urban areas
- Six-month pilot phase launched in the Railway Technology business unit
For the most part, EQOS Energie rented the special vehicles required for construction work from its Railway Technology business unit in Belgium. In the recent past, there have been repeated bottlenecks for cherry pickers, as only a limited number of vehicles are available on the rental market. However, EQOS Energie is dependent on the availability of cherry pickers. The company therefore decided to invest in a Ruthmann TBR 230 Pro cherry picker.
Since January, the new cherry picker has been undergoing intensive testing for six months as a pilot vehicle at the Belgian EQOS Energie site in Maldegem for use on construction sites in local transport. Following the successful completion of this test period, further cherry pickers are to be purchased. “The special thing about the vehicle is that, at less than 3.5 tonnes, it is lighter than the trucks that we have previously used for overhead line construction work,” explains Arne Samijn, Head of the Catenary Intra-City Belgium profit centre. “This gives us much more flexibility when working in urban areas. Another advantage is that a truck driving licence is no longer required to drive this type of vehicle, so we no longer have to rely on people with a truck driving licence for our work.”
In future, the Ruthmann Steiger will primarily be used for live work on catenary systems, such as tram overhead lines in urban areas, but can also be used for a wide variety of projects. “The expansion and modernisation of our vehicle fleet is an important step towards providing our employees with the most modern machines and equipment with the latest technology. This gives them premium technology with maximum stability and enables them to improve their working speed. This enables us to achieve top-quality results and work safely,” says Carsten Kuhle, Managing Director responsible for the Rail Technology business division, adding: “As a green enabler, we see a modern infrastructure in local transport as an indispensable building block for the success of the mobility transition, especially in cities, and are happy to contribute to this with our work.”
Now that the EQOS Energie team has been briefed, the first assignments are on the agenda.
