Network infrastructure: EQOS Energie builds new high-voltage line for TenneT in Lower Saxony

14. februari 2023
  • Project strengthens the backbone of power supply in Germany |
  • EQOS Energie’s concept is convincing both technically and economically |
  • Large number of temporary installations and trades operating in parallel pose special challenge

EQOS Energie continues to advance the concrete implementation of the European energy transformation: On behalf of TenneT, Germany’s largest transmission network operator, EQOS Energie will work on Construction Lots 1 and 2 in Section 5 of the new construction of the 380-kV high-voltage line between Stade and Landesbergen in Lower Saxony. The company’s Overhead Line Construction business unit will deploy up to 60 employees during peak times on the line between Verden and Hoya for this project with a volume in the middle two-digit millions.

EQOS Energie is responsible for the new construction of a 380-kV line over 13 kilometres with 51 masts, which will in part also carry the 110-kV line. In addition, the company will ensure the power supply during the period of construction with temporary lines being installed, and it will disassemble and remove old lines and masts. Set up of the construction camp and road construction have already started, and the foundation work began at the start of 2023. Completion of the project is planned for summer 2025.

Another step towards a climate-neutral future of energy

The network expansion and increase of the transmission capacity are the be-all and end-all of realising the energy transformation. It is necessary to meet the changing requirements with regard to infrastructure and to increasingly bring regenerative energy from wind or solar plants to the grid.
Thomas Reichel, managing director responsible for overhead line construction at EQOS Energie: “I am happy that we were awarded a project, which strengthens the backbone of the power supply in Germany and represents another step towards a climate-neutral future of energy. Based on our experience in the planning and construction of temporary structures, we were able to present a strong concept that was convincing from both a technical and economic point of view and that will also ensure reliable adherence to deadlines. The fact that EQOS Energie has also been commissioned to renew the 220-kV Landesbergen substation in the region further underscores our expertise in the expansion of complex energy infrastructure.”

The large number of necessary temporary structures and a whole series of trades operating in parallel, such as special civil engineering, underground construction, road construction, dismantling of overhead lines, installation of field installation cables or cabling work increase the complexity of the project significantly. Therefore, the precise planning and coordination of the work is a particular challenge for the EQOS Energie team.
