- TenneT awards contract for the new construction of 380-/110-kV lines to EQOS Energie
- 19 kilometres of new power lines as an important building block for the energy transformation
- Preparing the grid infrastructure for increasing feed-in from wind power systems
The energy transformation and grid stability are the key requirements for a sustainable and secure power supply. On behalf of grid operator TenneT, EQOS Energie is constructing an important sub-project of the so-called East Coast Line in Schleswig-Holstein, thereby making another important contribution to achieving these goals. Specifically, TenneT commissioned the Germany North profit center of EQOS Energie’s Overhead Line Construction business unit with the construction of 16 kilometres of 380-kV extra-high-voltage lines and another three kilometres of 110-kV high-voltage lines in the second construction section between the Lübeck-West and Siems substations. One special feature is the preservation of six 110-kV circuits to be included in the planning in order to ensure the local power supply. This requires extensive conversion work before the new line can be fully installed.

“The fact that EQOS Energie was able to stand out in the two-stage tendering process due to the excellent preparation and presentation of the project is a confirmation of the high performance culture practised by our colleagues,” said Thomas Reichel, managing director in charge of the Overhead Line Construction business unit at EQOS Energie. “Since we offer a very broad range of services from a single source, we will cover the majority of the challenging tasks of this project with our own resources. We have also been able to earn TenneT’s trust in the dependability of EQOS in current and past projects, including in Schleswig-Holstein,” Reichel added.
Future-proof grid infrastructure for more wind energy
The East Coast Line, which runs from the Segeberg district via Lübeck to Göhl, is a core project of the energy transformation. It enables the grid integration of green electricity from wind power systems in the Ostholstein region and makes a key contribution to increasing transmission capacity both in Schleswig-Holstein and towards the south. An improved connection to the Baltic Cable, a 440-kV extra-high-voltage direct current transmission line, will also optimise the exchange of electricity between Germany and Sweden. By integrating the German grid into the pan-European grid, the East Coast Line will also become an important building block in securing the electricity supply.
Sven Birkner, head of the Germany North profit center at EQOS Energie, described the construction process: “First, the construction of roads and temporary structures is on the agenda. Subsequently, the mast foundations will be constructed. The new masts will then be installed and fitted with conductor cables. In total, we will construct 46 new sites and create the corresponding power circuits.” At peak times, EQOS Energie will deploy up to 80 experts to the construction site.
