EQOS Energie acquires overhead line construction specialist Bilfinger FRB

21. maart 2019

With this takeover, EQOS Energie greatly expands its market share in overhead line construction

EQOS Energie Deutschland GmbH is continuing its strategic orientation on its core business and will also continue to focus on the business fields of energy, telecommunications and traffic. As part of this focus, the company announced the acquisition of all shares of overhead line construction specialist Bilfinger FRB GmbH based in Dinslaken, Germany, and of Bilfinger FRB S.à r.l. based in Luxembourg as of 1 April 2019.

FRB has proven expertise and many years of experience in overhead line construction. With the broad positioning of FRB offering everything from a single source, from line planning and statics to civil engineering and fitting, EQOS Energie will gain access to additional attractive projects and customers. Complementary customer bases, a supplementary investment strategy, complementary skills in the areas of calculation and project management as well as additional capacities provide considerable benefits for both parties. Based on the merger of both companies, there will be not just synergies but also the possibility of supporting customers’ increasing needs during larger projects. In addition, the regional positioning makes it possible to provide more intensive customer service locally.

“With this acquisition, we are setting a strategic milestone for our service portfolio and will be able to cover the increasing market volume even better,” said Eric Mendel, CEO and President of the Executive Management of EQOS Energie, summarising the takeover. “The merger facilitates a sustainable improvement of operative processes and structures for our Group. Bottom line: We offer our customers enormous added value by optimally linking the benefits of both parties in engineering and project execution.” This way, EQOS Energie strengthens its position as the top provider in the German-language overhead lines market. Based on this acquisition, the company can avail itself of some 180 additional experts in six additional locations in Germany and Luxembourg.

After the takeover of all business shares of Bilfinger FRB GmbH, the company will do business under the name EQOS Energie Freileitungsbau. The previous managing director and co-founder of FRB in Germany, Thomas Reichel, will manage the Overhead Lines Construction business unit for the entire Group. As a result, he will take over for Carsten Kuhle, who, starting immediately, will be responsible for the Railway Technology business unit.

“We would like to thank all parties involved for their trust and for the acceptance of our offer, and we are looking forward to the future collaboration in this strong constellation. On behalf of the entire management, I would like to cordially welcome our new colleagues,” Mendel added.
