  • Stromnetz Hamburg GmbH relies on a German-Austrian cooperation in an extensive project

Foetz/Hamburg, 17. March 2016 – EQOS Energie is renewing around 200 kilometres of overhead lines and ground cables in Hamburg at the behest of DNO Stromnetz Hamburg GmbH. In total, the work on twelve 110 kV overhead lines will be completed by the end of June 2016. The special features of the project besides a tight, densely structured schedule was that all kinds of intersections have to be planned and considered separately. These include several motorways, railway facilities run by various operators, waterways, port facilities, residential areas, industrial parks and plants

“Around 60 overhead line fitters, 30 each from Austria and Germany are working simultaneously at three construction sites to complete the job as soon as possible”, as Carsten Sommer, Business Unit Manager EQOS Energie Deutschland remarks. “We are delighted that our turnkey offer found favour with Stromnetz Hamburg as it gives us a chance to demonstrate our cross-border expertise in a demanding project”, adds Kurt Rader, Business Unit Manager EQOS Energie Österreich.

Thanks to fibre optics communication Stromnetz Hamburg can monitor and control high-voltage lines. In addition, the various substations also communicate with one another. As Thomas Volk, Technical Director Stromnetz Hamburg GmbH comments: “The overhead lines are more than 50 years old and need to be brought up to modern requirements. They have to be shut down briefly one side at a time for work on the high voltage lines, which however goes unnoticed by the inhabitants of Hamburg. They are reliably supplied with electricity at all times.”

In this turnkey project EQOS Energie is responsible for determining the quantities of all required material, to procure and hold it ready for installation. Old ground cables are being replaced by new ones, each with 48 OWG fibers, so called optical ground wire (OPGW), and also outdated conductor wires on three 110 kV overhead lines. esides cable pulls and installation work, EQOS Energie is also responsible for fibre optic connecting of the OWG fibres including linkage to the substations and final measurement.
