- Only specially qualified companies are allowed to perform work involving water-endangering substances on systems with increased hazard potential: Specialist companies in accordance with the German Water Resources Act (WHG).
- EQOS Energie has recently obtained this certification for so-called LAU and HBV systems.
In Germany, the legal requirements regarding water protection are governed by the German Water Resources Act (WHG) and the Ordinance for Systems Handling Water-endangering Substances (AwSV). Based on the expansion of water conservation areas and tighter regulations regarding permissible storage quantities of water-endangering substances, plant engineering requirements are consequently increasing as well. In order to complement its automation portfolio, EQOS Energie’s expertise has now broadened to include these requirements. During an audit, the company recently acquired the certification that will enable it to perform planning, construction, overhaul and decommissioning of process measuring and control technology on so-called LAU and HBV systems. LAU systems (the German acronym stands for storing, filling, transferring) include tank farms, chemical ramps and ship loading, among other things. HBV systems (the German acronym stands for manufacture, treatment and consumption) include systems of the chemical and petrochemical industry as well as emergency diesel for generators or fuel oil consumer installations.
Based on the certification as a specialist company pursuant to the WHG, customers of EQOS Energie obtain legal certainty as a result of the benefit from the collaboration with a partner who is optimally familiar with the water protection and technical aspects of current regulations. Uwe Trampnau, Managing Director for the Energy Technology division at EQOS Energie: “As a certified specialist company in terms of the German Water Resources Act, we will offer our customers even more comprehensive services from now on. Based on the new certification, we will be able to support customers from engineering to repeated inspections over the entire lifecycle.”

As a company specialising in process and manufactoring automation , EQOS Energie focuses particularly on subject areas in the field of technical law. The subject matter experts work not only according to the requirements of the automation tasks but also support their customers early on during the generation of risk analyses and HAZOP studies. With an existing focus on issues of functional safety, the certification as a specialist company in terms of the German Water Resources Act is a logical next step toward fulfilling the company´s brand promise included in the EQOS name: “Excellent Quality Of Services”.
