Contract awarded: EQOS Energie to build 37 masts of the Central Axis

30. April 2018
  • TenneT TSO GmbH awards part of the second construction section to EQOS Energie

On behalf of TenneT TSO GmbH, EQOS Energie will perform the new construction of the 380/110-kV line, which will replace the previous 220/110-kV line. This includes the construction of a 70-kilometre section, which forms part of the 150-kilometre 380/110-kV overhead line from Lower Saxony to Denmark. EQOS Energie will implement part of this second construction section in this project. The total of 37 masts will be installed between Audorf and Flensburg. The work is scheduled to start in May 2018 and will likely be concluded in December of 2020.

The objective of the project is to increase the transport capacity between the Audorf and Handewitt substations. This will be done by the new 380/110-kV line in the future. Upon commissioning of the new line, the existing 220/110-kV line will be dismantled. To safeguard the residents’ power supply during the construction phase, provisional set-ups will be installed in a total of 30 locations. “I am delighted that we were able to land this future-oriented project,” said Eric Mendel, CEO of the EQOS Energie Group. “Apart from the West Coast Line, we can now also make a contribution to adjusting the power grid of the Central Axis to the increasing feed of renewable energies.”

During this project, EQOS Energie is responsible for all remodeling and dismantling work of the existing lines, provisional set-ups and junctions. In order to keep impacts on the agricultural areas as low as possible at the mast locations, all machinery sites will be equipped with crane mats to reduce soil compression. The protection of plant life and animals will be ensured based on the close collaboration with the environmental project support team hired by the client. All mast locations of the construction section can be quickly and easily reached from the construction camp, which was specially set up in the former military barracks in Rendsburg.

EQOS Energie has been active in Germany since 1920. With almost 100 years of experience in the planning, construction, optimisation and maintenance of complex technical infrastructures, the company has realised numerous projects in the area of overhead lines. The engineers and fitters deployed by EQOS Energie work in an interdisciplinary manner and across national borders. As a result, the range of products and services covers any and all facilities and systems for the generation.
